A 3-part series of two-day Midwifery Skills Workshops over THREE MONTHS, for wanna-be & aspiring midwives, midwifery students (CPM & CNM), CPM candidates, new CPMs & CNMs needing more skills practice …


Regardless of whether you think they are "ready" to be signed off on the skills or not or just beginning your practice, everyone needs the opportunity to listen, learn, watch, practice, Practice, PRACTICE & PRACTICE some more!


WHO:  8 - 10 participants

Midwifery Skills Practicum Syllabus (Spring 2012)

Part I ~ Basic Midwifery Skills: Learn how to…


1. Use aseptic & sterile technique;

a) Proper hand washing,

b) Proper gloving and un-gloving,

c) Assist using both aseptic & sterile technique.


2. Use of both a digital:

a) Hemoglobin meter, and

b) Glucose meter.


3. Taking vitals on mothers & babies:

a) temperature,

b) blood pressure,

c) pulse/HR,

d) respiration,

e) reflexes;


4. Interviewing & Listening skills


5. Conducting a Prenatal physical & exam

Part II ~ Venipuncture, IM Injections,

Starting IV’s and Suturing:

(Students will practice venipuncture & IV’s on each other!)


1. Learn, watch, and then practice

proper venipuncture technique

and draw blood from various sites;


2. Learn, watch & then practice

how to perform an IM injection;


3. Learn, watch & then practice

starting an IV;


4. Learn, watch & then practice

various suturing techniques.



Part III ~ Resolving Shoulder Dystocia,

Estimating Blood Loss, Managing Postpartum

Hemorrhage, and Resuscitation of the Newborn

NOTE: NRP Certification is NOT offered for this class.


1. Understand optimal fetal positioning (OFP).

    Learn & practice the maneuvers &

    techniques for managing a“stuck baby”…

(modeled after renowned midwife Gail Tully’s

Resolving Shoulder Dystocia techniques:

2. Estimating blood loss & identifying a

postpartum hemorrhage.


3. Learn techniques, herbal and allopathic

treatment for managing postpartum hemorrhage.

4. Learn WHAT, WHEN & HOW to resuscitate the

neonate. This is NOT an NRP certification class!

Fees & Details:  EARLY BIRD = $450.00 (including all supplies), Paid if FULL by March 15

Regular Fee = $500.00 (including all supplies), with a 3-Payment plan available.
